2018 Spirit of InterPlay Award

The Triangle, NC InterPlay community has chosen Terry McCarthy to receive this year’s Spirit of InterPlay award. The Spirit of InterPlay Award was established by Body Wisdom, Inc. to celebrate the leaders in local communities and around the country who embody and share the spirit of InterPlay.

This award is a well-deserved recognition of his many years of service to InterPlay and to others. Terry was a charter member of the Triangle InterPlay community and Off the Deep End Performance Ensemble. He performed with ODE with his dance, storytelling, poetry, voice, and instruments. He has consistently co-led the Durham/Carrboro/Chapel Hill playgroup for many years, and his work in co-leading the Secrets of InterPlay and the Life Practice Program in the Triangle was highly praised. Terry has created many workshops over the years, focusing on storytelling and poetry. He was a contributing member of the team that established Playground as the coordinating body for Triangle InterPlay. He also co-created and co-directed Impromptu Players with his wife, Laurece West.

Terry is, first and foremost, a collaborator, working with so many talented co-leaders such as Oliver Crichton, Stacy Miller, Aviva Enoch, and Laurece West. He simply embodies the principles of InterPlay in his everyday life more than anyone else we know. Congratulations, Terry!
